Domestic Hot Water In-Floor Radiant Heating

In the 90’s, EMCO Supply Calgary manufactured a control board that regulated domestic hot water through radiant plastic tubing in basement concrete floors to give comfort heat to the basements.  The panels incorporated a Tekmar RTU and controller that would open and close a zone valve and turn on a pump to allow your domestic hot water to heat your floors.  We called these systems a “poor man’s boiler”.  They worked well for what they were intended but technology and codes have changed.

Tekmar no longer makes the 351 or 352 controller that was used on these systems.  The Hydronic Heating Code B214 has been upgraded and you can no longer install more than 50 feet of tubing in the floor if it is connected to your domestic hot water.  Your installations are grandfathered as they were to code when they were installed. New regulation stipulates that the water in the floor has to be circulated at least once a day to prevent a buildup of Legionella that can cause Legionnaires disease, which can be fatal.

Anderson Plumbing has spent some time developing a retrofit for these EMCO boards.  Call us today for a free quotation to retrofit or upgrade your system.
